data need for sailorsWhen on a sailboat, we need to know the speed or the estimated time of arrival to the waypoint but we don't sail always directly throug it. Knowing the speed of approaching help us very much to know what is the best wind angle that whe have to sail in order to approach waypoint as quick as possible

Thank you
I've tryed the new feature and it works fine, thank you very much for implementing.
ok
check the newest version, please
estimated time of arrival
estimated time of arrival depends on your course now (in my working version). it is displayed on the main screen. is it better to display the speed to your target? on the navigation screen? or target screen? what do you think?
I think target display will
I think target display will be better, is the screen I look at when i want to navigate to a waypoint
screen
the target screen with text info? ot the navigation screen with the big arrow?
I call target screen the
I call target screen the main screen with the arrow in the down left corner , the e.t.a. , distance, and where you see the red line pointing the target
e.t.a
ok, there is it changed now. time is now dependent on speed and angle. I upload the next version to the server next week.
angle
do you mean projected speed (or how I should name it)? speed * cosinus(alpha)? you are right.
I hope, there is at least 5-inch large navigami logo on your sail ;o)
I really like your program
I really like your program and i am talking about it to my friends and in a spanish forum where i use to participe. Is for that I have lots of suggestions and i would like to help (I am a programmer and a sailor).
I do not use maps for 2 reasons: 1.- I can't download them 2.- I don't need them vey much and in a small screen as the cell one is not ideal to read maps.
Is very confortable on the boat to have a GPS-track-compass in your pocket and yours have the potencial to be a good one. returning to the estimated time of arrival,we(the sailors) need to know what is the speed we have in relation to te waypoint becouse the straight line estimation is not always possible and it is a data where we don't need very much accuracy, never mind if you arrive 15 minutes after or before. But if we have the speed of approaching v*cosx we can compare it in different angles of wind and help us to know what is the better rate of speed/approach. imagine this: in a straight navigation for 10 miles I can do 5 kn but if i take an angle of 10º i do 7 kn, what is better? You know both variables so it is only a question of implement the operation. We can't navigate facing the wind, we need an angle of 25-30 to sail so a direct value has no value for us. As you know there are lot's of "car" or "walk" navigators for cell phones or PDA so let's do a better nautical navigator.
In the other way i like your logo so send me one and I'll stamp it on my sail and if you pay the painting i can paint the hull with it :) (seriously)
speed
I think, I undestand. I do paragliding and powerkiting, so I'm little familiar with a clouth in the wind ;o). I like sailing and I want to try it sometimes.
I have Garmin eTrex Legend (bought for $100 one month ago) and it has this feature. And it is waterproof: a good tip for you ;o)
I will change it in the app in the next version.
If you donate this project and if there are enough donations, I will pay the painting of your hull. I hope I will see you on TV ;o)
You are right, a Garmin is
You are right, a Garmin is better...by the moment, but a garmin can't receive calls so i have to carry my phone onboard and charge it's battery anyway so if you can do a "garmin" program i should not recharge batteries from both. And it is a promise, if you paint my boat you will see it on TV ;)
