Maps

navigami uses its own vector format. Maps are based on free public data. Current version uses VMAP Level 0 dataset created by The National Geospatial - Intelligence Agency . Maps can be downloaded in the navigami application. They stored in your phone after downloading and can be used later. Current version uses phone memory. Memory cards and usb will be supported later.

Maps are optimized for small mobile devices with less memory and limited resources. A new MicroMap API was developed to handle vector maps in MicroJava. It supports zooming, rotating, 2D/3D view, many map projections, does not require much memory and storage space and is fast enough on real J2ME devices.

How it works? It works in the same way as other internet maps like google maps. Maps are generated for each zoom level and splited into tiles. These tiles are downloaded to the application and stored in the phone. The difference is navigami uses vector data instead of raster. It needs much less space and maps can be processed on the client side.

Navigami can be used without maps too.

!BETA TESTING!
Only first 8 levels available now. Higher levels and more data will come soon.
