Dear Michal,
I have downloaded my country map via serialproxy. I downloaded deeper map levels also and find that if total size exceeds 450KB, loading, zooming and navigating on the map is getting very slow. After 700KB, almost impossible to use.
Navigami definately needs a map management future which considers of the map size. It would be very nice to have a selection option for country or region to load/unload.
Thank you for NAVIGAMI, the great mobile GPS Software.
PS: I am using SE W800i with 2GB MS Duo and Royaltek BT2110 GPS Mouse.Mostly using on the motorbike.Navigami ver:1.0.3
slow
yes, you are right. navigami is in development and it is the first java gps app with vector maps I know. I try to find the best way but it is not easy because there are very limited resources in j2me and mobile java apps can't have performance like symbian or win ce apps.
what does it mean very slow for you?
some test figures about getting slow
1. Navigami size: 443KB (map of 1 out of 7 region completely downloaded)
a. Programme start: 25sec.
b. Pan-zoom transition. 6sec. (mostly it makes me confusing whether if I pressed the fire button or not)
c. Zoom levels: 200km->100km (5sec.); 100km->50km (3sec.); 50km->100km (6sec.)
2. Navigami size: 601KB (map of 3 out of 7 region completely donloaded)
a. Programme start: 55sec.
b. Pan-zoom transition. 13sec.
c. Zoom levels: 200km->100km (23sec.); 100km->50km (15sec.); 50km-100km (24sec.)
Zooming below 20km doesn't takes time and it's OK.
My Comment: I am quite happy with 8 map levels. This is fair to expect from a small size gadget. As I am a professional traveller, I like to have loadable map modules. It will make very convenient especially being abroad.
Please let me know if you need any further test figures.
performance
you are right, 10-20 sec is too much and SE has a fast java. I try to solve this from the project begin. I try to find some optimization
