Starting from Vaprio d’Adda, you can immediately spot the House of the Water Guardian, a station where merchants once stopped to pay the toll imposed by local governments. After just a few minutes, you’ll come across one of the most important villas along this water route: Villa Melzi. This splendid location with terraced gardens had the honour of hosting the genius Leonardo da Vinci.
Continuing along the waterway, which crosses the Adda Nord Park, the boat reaches the historic Crespi Village, a model industrial village and small feudal estate where the family castle symbolized both authority and benevolence towards workers and their families.<\/p>\n

Crespi Village is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.<\/p>\n

The navigation ends in Concesa di Trezzo, where there is a sanctuary built along a watercourse to invoke divine protection from storms and bad weather.<\/p>\n

The church is very artistic, even if not particularly large. You can also visit the large garden, carefully maintained by the Carmelite friars.<\/p>\n

This one-way navigation on the Naviglio Martesana, from Vaprio d’Adda to Concesa di Trezzo, lasts about 25 minutes.<\/p>\n

Did you know that …?<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are several curiosities that can be found on the canals, here are some:<\/p>\n

1) The Naviglio Martesana is also known as Naviglio Piccolo<\/p>\n

2) It was designed by Leonardo da Vinci; Carlo Borromeo and all the Milanese archbishops sailed it, but also Alessandro Manzoni, Cesare Beccaria, Parini and the Scaliger soprano Luigi Marchesi.<\/p>\n

3) Elio e le Storie Tese talks about the Naviglio Martesana in his song “Zelig: la cunesiun del pulpacc”<\/p>\n
